My husband passed in 2003 from kidney cancer and he also had type II diabetes. There is so much I don't know and wish I could ask him. His service was never discussed. He was aboard the Uss Stribling in 69 and I was begining to believe no one on the ship was left but I finally made contact with a mate who dosen't think it was possible for the "boots on the ground". The only thing I can see that might work in my favor is his mate said they went into Da Nang Harbor. Now I have to drill him to see if they docked or anchored. I have read how to get the ships logs but I must admit I am very confused! Bless you guys and I love to hear your stories!
He has a brother in Florida whos feet are about to fall off from type II diabetes who was stationed on the USS Rosevelt and for the life of me I can't get him to join the forum. He just got a reply from his claim they need more evidence of some sort ... so much for the haas stay

I served on the U.S.S.Oriskany(CVA-34) from 6-71 to 2-75, did three WestPac cruises on her. On the WestPac tour of 72-73,a so called rash appear on my body. I still have the rash today it has never went away. It is looks like a blackhead but it is not at all like it. The VA diagnosed it as a Severe Acneform Dermatitis. Two years ago the VA diagnosed me with Type 2 Diabetes.I went to VSO to file a claim, he told that he would not put in a claim because I the Boots On Ground and I served off the coast. I need help anybody can give as the meds the VA has me on does not agree with me.

Get yourself a different VSO. Then educate yourself so you can be your best advocate, something you must be, so you can make sure your VSO is acting in your best interest.

In the interim, get to working on getting your Congress on board with S1939 and HR2254 if they are not already on board.

James, as Dak said, change your VSO or threaten him enough to make him think you are going to do. You must inform this VSO to get his ass off the chair and start getting informed with the BWN information so he knows what he is talking about. I can understand his statement due to all the NOD's, Appeals and things he has probably dealt with, but let him know you have found the organization that has been making change with this issue.

There is all the information you need to fight this battle along with us, and everything you need is on the main page of this site. Anything you need is there and may I suggest that you always check the updates. Don't allow this VSO to delay and refuse what he is suppose to do, file the paper work, and get it done.

Just noticed this again, and there's been some changes, so I'll update.

In April, 2008 I discovered that B-cell Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (hereinafter CLL) was a Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (hereinafter NHL), under the definition contained in US Code Title 38, CFR 3.313. Note that I had filed for CLL under the Agent Orange Act of 1991, without mention of Title or CFR number, and the Claim was denied under "Boots on the Ground". The fact that both CLL and NHL are listed on the presumptive list, separately, needlessly complicated the issue.

On advice of JR and Jeff Davis here, and Larry Scott and Jim Strickland at the VAWatchdog.org, I filed for NHL (only!) under the aforesaid Title 38 CFR 3.313, and 7 months later was awarded 100% disability. Note, I specifically have TWO of the qualifying cancers, 'B-cell Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and Small Lymphocyte Lymphoma (hereinafter SLL).

The fun part, here, is that the CLL and SLL are considered to be two phases of the same form of NHL; something not mentioned anywhere in the presumed diseases list, nor described in most web sites. Essentially, you have to know that this one particular form of CLL/SLL is a NHL. Typical bureaucratic half-stepping by the DVA that makes it much harder to obtain benefits.

Further, you have to know, if you are a Blue Water Navy sailor that NHL (any of the forms, of which there are about 10) is covered by said Title 38 CFR 3.313. Bluntly, were it not for Jeff Davis and John Rossie, I'd never have known about it. Larry and Jim at the Watchdog had to ask at their VA contacts to find out.

Last, it should be noted that I had to file for Permanent and Total Disability separately, in 2009, and it took 6 months before it was awarded. Like, somewhere the DVA figures that there is a NHL victim who got 'cured'.

Upshot being, this place is a repository of information and help unmatched by any other Veterans Advocacy site on the web. We've got a lot of people with a lot of experience in overcoming the seeminly-endless hoops the DVA puts in the way of veterans in general, and BWN sailors specifically.

I don't know that I've mentioned it.
multiple myeloma
diabetes
peripheral neuropathy associated with the diabetes.
DRO review coming on those.

I also have ONJ associated with the myeloma but fat chance of getting that covered.
